We’ve all got a million & one things to do & even more to think about. Whether it’s work, studies, socialising, relationships, running a home, staying active, eating right. The list is endless, so it’s no surprise that a recent study by the Mental Health Foundation showed 82% of us report feeling stressed at some point in a typical week.
We shouldn’t be so tough on ourselves, and we most certainly shouldn’t feel so guilty about being a bit selfish and having some time to ourselves from time to time. Sometimes a day of relaxation and pampering is just what you need to take some time out, refresh & revitalise. But when payday seems like a million miles away, a luxurious spa day isn’t always within budget. But who says that feeling of calm, relaxation and wellbeing should be confined to a spa?
Here we share our tips on how to enjoy a home relaxation day...
Our lives are absolutely hectic. Chances are if you don’t pin down a date for your relaxation day, it’ll never happen. There’s always that meeting, that errand, that party. Choose a date. Maybe you want to share your day with friends, maybe you want some valuable me time. It’s your day, you do what’s best for you. Find a date that works for you, keep it free of all plans, and stick to it. Plan your home relaxation day & write down a list of everything you’ll need a week ahead; be it products, snacks, comfy clothes.
Check your list - make sure you’ve got everything you need ahead of the big day so you have everything you need at your finger tips.
Make sure any clutter is cleared up and be sure to remove any distractions. If you have pets or children, tonight is the night for them to have a sleepover.
Make sure towels are clean and dry - use the posh ones; it's your special day!
Choose your candles or essential oils - Lavender, Frankincense and Bergamot are said to have relaxing properties and they smell utterly divine.
Prepare any snacks.
Choose a soothing playlist.
Get a good night's sleep.
The big day of relaxation has finally arrived. And what better way is there to start a relaxing day than with a lovely lie in? This is a day for relaxing and feeling good. There’s nowhere that feels as good as your own bed, so give yourself an extra half hour or so and enjoy every minute of it. Avoid alcohol the night before as this can affect our sleep, and as we know all too well it can leave us feeling groggy & far from energised.
Have a break from technology; you’ll be surprised at how liberating it feels. Switch off from the outside world. That includes your mobile phone, your laptop, your tablet. Today is about you. Emails can wait, & Sandra’s holiday photos will still be there tomorrow.
Today is about feeling your best and looking after yourself, so it’s really important that you start the day right. We all know a healthy and nutritious breakfast is the best way to start the day; but healthy doesn’t mean boring. Eggs are a fantastic source of protein, they’re quick and easy to whip up, and they’re delicious whether they’re boiled, poached, fried or scrambled! Eggs are packed full of goodness and will keep you full and energised, ready to enjoy the day ahead.
Today is about what you find relaxing, so plan some activities that soothe and relax you. Whether this means curling up with a good book, booking an at-home massage, having a manicure, going for a swim or a gentle bike ride, or trying that face mask you've been dying to use. It's your day. There are no rules. You are your own priority today, so do what makes your soul happy.
Remember the secret to staying energised and achieving that radiant glow is to stay hydrated. Experts recommend that we drink around 8 glasses of water a day. Try infusing water with fresh fruits for a fun twist. Just fill up a jug of water & throw in your favourite ingredients; try refreshing strawberry & mint leaves, citrusy-fresh lemon & cucumber or luxurious lemon, ginger & a squeeze of honey.
Add your fruit infused water to our BEAUTY Drinkable Vitamins for a delicious beauty boosting fruit cocktail packed full of Collagen, MSM, Biotin, Selenium, Vitamin C & Vitamin E, designed to improve hair, skin and nails.
Don't be tempted to pig out on junk food. Today is about well-being and feeling relaxed, not about troughing pizza and ice cream. We know that we are what we eat, and choosing the right foods can really affect our mood and our energy levels. Fill up on fruits, vegetables and lean protein - not the contents of your biscuit tin.
A great way to end a day of relaxation is with a luxurious bath. Turn off the lights and create a tranquil ambience with soothing candles. Use the posh shampoo and bubble bath that are ordinarily strictly for display purposes. Use the guest towels. Lie back and bask in warmth and serenity.
Slip into your comfiest pyjamas. Try our RELAX Drinkable Vitamins mixed with warm water for a soothing drink containing a sleepy blend of chamomile and lemon balm before you drift off into a deep slumber... Ahhhhh...
